Figline Valdarno
Figline Valdarno, population 17,000, is a typical, small, Italian town with an historical background.
The story of Figline Valdarno began at the end of the 12th century and now is counted among one of the most interesting artistically rich towns in the Florence area. The oratorio of the cross in the church at the Piazza Marsilio Ticino, the museum of holy arts, and the old town gate Torre della Bandinella are of special interest and should not be missed.
Figline Valdarno was the birthplace of the popular philosopher Marsilio Ficino (*1433 - †1499). Even today, you can still see how proud the inhabitants are of his cultural heritage – so proud that the main promenade was named after him.
The fact that Tuscany’s most popular places of worship like Florence, Siena and Arezzo, are close to Figline Vadarno, is an additional incentive to visit this beautiful town.
Large wine-growing estates can be visited for wine-tasting, small and comfortable Italian restaurants for a delicious meal, and a vast number of places for the worshippers and the art connoisseurs.
The town with its pleasant and easygoing surroundings is located directly on the river Arno well far away from the big city’s mass tourism, but still attracts many tourists each year who spend their holidays in Figline Valdarno.
Right above the small town, you will find a leisure centre with a campsite (Campaggio Girasole), holiday apartments (La Villa), a huge swimming pool and an underground disco.
The Fattoria Casagrande, located directly in the town, offers a magnificent culinary experience whether you are in the Knight’s hall or in the inner yard of the beautiful old ruins. The wine is home produced and of exquisite quality. The Ristorante Leon d’ Oro comes highly recommended and offers a good cuisine at reasonable prices.
